I was recently scrolling through one of my many social media apps one restless night when I spotted a pretty orange necklace on one of my friend’s toddlers. I clicked to see if she linked where she purchased it from so I could find out some more information. I went to her profile to see that she had a picture of her entire family sporting this beaded necklace and now I was really curious.
I sent her a message asking her where she got this beaded beauty from and she responded back with a link for Baltic Amber and told me that she originally purchased one for her toddler’s teething problems, and after more research, found that it could be used for many ailments and for family members of all ages. I had several questions that I set out to find answers for. What is Baltic amber? How does it work? What are the benefits? What do the colors mean? I knew I could find my answers on google, so I poured myself a cup of coffee and dove right in.
What is Baltic Amber? Baltic Amber gets its name from the region it’s found in. This particular amber is harvested from forests containing conifer trees near the Baltic Sea. These trees contain sap with some of the highest traces of succinic acid, the key medicinal component in these necklaces, ranging from 6-8%.
How does amber necklaces work? Amber necklaces work best when worn. This is because the body heats the amber bead, allowing the resin to flow from its pores and into the body’s bloodstream. When in the bloodstream, that’s when you’ll start to experience the many benefits of amber!
What are the benefits of wearing amber necklaces? For several centuries, amber has been used by many cultures because of it’s healing properties. Amber has anti-inflammatory aspects, immunity boosters, and mood stabilizers. When older generations started to experience arthritis or sore joints, amber would be placed on the affected area. Swollen muscles would relax, allowing for easier joint movement and less pain. Teething babies experience gum discomfort from inflamed gums.
When amber necklaces are worn, the inflammation of the gums is reduced, causing less drool, less chewing, and a more relaxed baby. When communities would experience situational depression, especially during the winter months, they would wear amber to help boost their moods. Cancer patients with lowered immunities can wear amber to increase their antioxidants, strengthening their natural immunity. Amber necklaces aren’t just for teething babies, they’re for anyone looking for a natural remedy to common ailments.
Is there a difference in amber’s colors? The short answer is no. To explain that a bit better though, I would need to explain raw vs polished amber. Color matters when purchasing raw amber because of its porous surface. Raw amber allows for the resin to seep through the bead’s surface much easier. Polished amber, however, takes longer for the antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory properties to seep through the surface and into the body. Lighter ambers have more succinic acid, so when buying a polished bead, you would want to look for lemon colored or honey variants. Raw amber is not suggested for younger children due to the porous surface irritating the skin.
After several months of my family wearing these matching beads from WWW.BALTICWONDER.COM, we have found that our backs hurt less, our growing pains don’t seem so painful, or anxiety isn’t as high and our teething baby isn’t as cranky. My husband even commented that it was a mother’s WD-40. From father to child, we approve nature’s fixer-upper.
