How To Save Energy During Your Morning Routine

When we go through our morning routines before we leave for work, it’s a wonder how much energy we can end up wasting without even really thinking about it. From turning the news on in another room while getting ready to groggily flipping every light on while we make coffee, it’s easy to use way more energy than we need to. If you want to find out more about how you can lower your energy usage during your morning routine, then keep reading.

Only Turn On Lights and Televisions When You’re In The Room

Never leave the TV on in the bedroom if you’re currently doing your makeup in the bathroom. Most of us have a tendency to just turn everything on in the morning as we get ready. Instead, make a concerted effort to only turn on lights and electronics in rooms that you are actually in at the moment.

Save Energy

Unplug Appliances Immediately After Using Them

If you’re done making toast, then unplug the toaster. Even if appliances aren’t actively being used, they can use energy just by merely being plugged in. Unplug your coffee pot as soon as it’s done brewing as well. If you have less than an hour between making coffee and heading to work, there is no chance that your coffee will become too cold to be enjoyed. It takes hot liquids well over an hour to really cool.

Adjust The Thermostat Before You Leave

When we’re in a rush in the morning, we oftentimes forget to reset the thermostat. Remember, there is no reason to heat or cool the house when you’re not actually there. Make a point to adjust the thermostat before you leave each morning. If you have a hard time remembering to do this, then set the thermostat to automatically adjust the temperature around the time that you leave for work each day.

Do A Quick Check Before Leaving Each Morning

Before you leave for work each morning, take one or two minutes to do a quick check of your home. During this time, ensure that all lights have been turned off and that no grooming tools or appliances have been left plugged in. These little changes can really shave a huge chunk off of your energy bill in the long run.

If you follow these tips, you’ll enjoy more energy-efficient morning routines. Plus, you’ll start to see a reduction in your monthly energy costs. Begin to save energy now!
