When it comes to quality traditional comfort food, Mati’s Meat and Bread stands out because not only that the food is great but it’s also under the umbrella of the Melo’s Group of casual dining restaurants. Mati’s Meat and Bread is a husband and wife team – Caron Santiago-Macasaet, one of the heirs to the Melo’s culinary legacy, and her husband Paul Macasaet, Mati’s chef.

I got invited last month for a food review with other media and bloggers. You can feel the homey ambiance overlooking a huge lush green garden and the river. Quite a huge place with a second floor, so the resto can cater to a whole lot more people.
Inside the restaurant, Mati’s does feel like home, albeit a little more modern than the average house. Brick features, the use of wood, warm red tones, and a chalkboard displaying menu items make space feel welcoming and inviting, like coming to a friend’s house to enjoy a meal. The floor-to-ceiling window, displaying views of the 1.5- kilometer live river and lush greens that attract customers to River Park, makes the place a lot more enticing.
“We wanted to make something a little more casual, but still carrying the trademark quality of our brand Melo’s,” says Caron Macasaet.
“When we were conceptualizing the restaurant, we were thinking of a cross between a San Francisco diner and a Vancouver steakhouse. Both inspirations had this casual, homey vibe that we wanted for Mati’s,” says Paul Macasaet.
The homey feeling at Mati’s Meat and Bread is not the only thing that will make customers dine again, but also the sumptuous menu and great service.

Here’s the menu they served during the event. Plating was superb for each dish as well as delectable in taste.

First time to eat balut and aligue in one dish. I had to control myself or I might end up somewhere, lol. It was sooooo yummy, finished just 1pc and a few dips on the aligue sauce. This is a must-try, or you’ll forever regret it, hahaha

Bite-size sauteed shrimp with toasted bread, perfect seasoning, and partner with an ice-cold beer!

This version of buffalo wings is not your typical spicy hot but it does have a hint to give your senses a little kick. Sweet and spicy and I think my kids can tolerate it.

Salpicao twist on your pizza that will certainly make you crave for more once you get home. I want my pizzas thin crusted so I can taste the ingredients more, plus easy to bite.

I sooo love oysters especially those oozing with cheese and buttered garlic! Yum-yum! I think I had 3pcs of this and that’s it for me hahaha. Oh, drizzle it a bit with lemon juice to take off the “lansa” beside it’s better tasting if it’s with a hint of lemon. Pricey for just a few pieces.

I’m not a salad person but this was an exception coz I needed to taste it. The combo dressing made it easier for me to chew and swallow the spinach coz I really don’t like it. If you think it looked delish in the photo, wait til you get to taste the whole bunch, deliciosísimo even for just a salad!

Pizza with combined jalapeño, pesto and pepperoni thus the name. If you’re in for that spicy kick with a bottle of ice cold drink on hand, then go for it!

A heavy meal on its own so I only ate 1/4 of this Mati’s Angus Burger or I won’t be able to get to the Steak, lol. Gave the rest to other bloggers. Juicy, meaty, savory dish that kids will definitely love!

A luxurious meal but if you really want to try this, I think it can be shared. Meat is tender, can be easily cut and chewed. Grilled to perfection!
There are lots more in the menu at Mati’s Meat and Bread that surely your family and friends will enjoy. Will be back to try the ones I haven’t tried yet.
And now for the dessert, nothing is listed on the menu so you have to ask for the “dessert of the day” and they are all priced the same. Here’s what I had that day..

“We have new and exciting new dishes that we can’t wait for the public to try out. We’re sure that diners will find it a very interesting experience,” Chef Paul says.
The Santiago-Macasaet couple adds that River Park is the perfect location for their restaurant because of its relaxed atmosphere.
“Mati’s is all about being down home and relaxing, and River Park, with its lush surroundings, provides that. It adds to the restaurant’s being the perfect place to chill out,” states Paul.
