Almost every single day, there’s an accident on the road that doesn’t involve motorcycles. What the heck is wrong with these people? Worst is, the helmets they wear are no use once they land or crash on the road. Most of them are messengers from some companies, some are from the fast food chains delivering the orders and some are employees going to their offices.

Though a few people would invest on really “tough” and solid head gears like hjc helmets, well, for some, most are company provided so you could guess what I’m thinking. I mean, these are used to protect the lives of those riding the “bike”, why would you go cheap? Helmets can crack, I know, but at least those more expensive ones may crack after several impacts and not on the first. I bet after the first damaging (self and the bike) accident, those riders would be more careful than ever.

This post is related to what happened to me last week. I was in a taxi and there was this motorcycle trying to get past us. He was maneuvering his bike faster than he can carry it simply because he wanted to be ahead of us. Maybe, he was in a hurry to get somewhere or he’s so consumed with how great it was to overtake other cars. And so when he was right on my taxi’s tail, he suddenly swerve to his left the same time my taxi did the very same thing. Boom! and he was down!

Luckily, he wasn’t that hurt. Just a few minor scratches but I bet he was stunned! The taxi driver got off and who knows what transpired between them. I didn’t go down, of course! Locked all the doors and waited for the driver to tell me all the details.

Helmets are supposed to protect you from accidents not caused by you. I mean, if a rider is careless and thinks that he’s the “king of the road”, that helmet would be of no great use once you fly several meters and land hard on the pavement.

So what is the lesson here? Ride with a helmet on, but be cautious and don’t think that you can fly riding your motorcycle.
